Here is ......🌈 Our Rainbow Story 🌈

From the very beginning, the rainbow has held a special meaning for us.

Fifteen years ago, during our very first golf tournament, our hearts were heavy. Just months earlier, two of our children had tragically passed away in car accidents. That day, the skies reflected how we felt—rain falling on and off as we tried to come together, to heal, and to honor their lives.

As we gathered to hand out awards, something incredible happened… a beautiful rainbow stretched across the sky.

In that moment, we felt it deep in our hearts—God was with us.
It was a sign of His presence, His love, and His promise to carry us through the grief. It reminded us that even in our darkest moments, there is hope, healing, and light.

Since that day, the rainbow has become our symbol:
✨ God’s healing
✨ His love
✨ His blessings

Over the past 15 years, we have been incredibly blessed to turn our pain into purpose—supporting and uplifting youth in our community in ways we never could have imagined.

Every event, every child helped, every dollar raised… it all carries a piece of that promise.

So when you see the rainbow in what we do, know that it represents so much more than color—it represents faith, resilience, love, and a community coming together to make a difference. 💛

Post #1.... So… What Does WGW Stand For?
One of the biggest questions we hear is, “What does WGW stand for, and how does it relate to this charity?”
It all began in 2010-11, when William George Weissgerber (WGW)— better known as Bill — had an idea to host a small charity golf tournament. His goal was simple: gather a few friends, play some golf, and raise money for a local cause.

Bill reached out to Brian Boal of Landon’s Library to see if they would like to be the beneficiary. But God had bigger plans than Bill and What started as a “small” idea quickly grew into something much bigger than anyone imagined, raising far more than expected and igniting a vision that continues today.
In 2012, Bill learned of two local families who had each experienced the heartbreaking loss of a child. Both families had established foundations in their children’s memory — Samantha Funding the Arts and The Andrew S. Woods Memorial Scholarship Fund — and were working to raise funds to continue their missions.

Recognizing the shared heart behind these organizations, Bill and Brian reached out to the McClosky and Woods families and invited them to join together as part of what would become the WGW Community Youth Cup Golf Tournament.

From that moment on, WGW became more than just a golf tournament — it became a collaboration of families, charities, volunteers, and supporters, united by a common purpose:

💚 to raise funds for all three primary charities
💚 to support additional youth-focused programs and projects throughout the community
💚 and to make a lasting difference in the lives of Garrett County’s youth

What began with one man, one idea, and a few friends has grown into a movement powered by generosity, faith, and community — and that is the heart of WGW.

Post #2....$2 MILLION GIVEN BACK TO GARRETT COUNTY YOUTH!

Yes… you read that right.

Two Million Dollars.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our sponsors, donors, volunteers, and participants, WGW Community Youth Charities has now given over $2 MILLION back to youth in our community.

A few weeks ago we shared the story of how the WGW Community Youth Cup began. Today we want to highlight the charities that make this impact possible and the lives being touched because of this amazing community.

💚 Who is WGW Community Youth Charities?

Through your support, WGW has provided:

✨ Funding for 108+ youth organizations
✨ Hundreds of scholarships to graduating seniors
✨ Support for countless additional youth needs throughout Garrett County
✨ And in 2025… we reached the incredible milestone of $2,000,000 given back to youth in our community!

Simply put — we are blessed to live in such a generous community.

🌟 Our Mission & Our Name
In 2025 we updated our name to WGW Community Youth Charities to better reflect the strong bond between our three primary charities while continuing to support many other youth-focused organizations throughout Garrett County.
Our primary charities include:

📚 Landon’s Library
🎓 The Andrew S. Woods Memorial Scholarship Fund
🎨 Samantha Funding the Arts

Each year, WGW also provides funding to additional impactful programs including Learning Beyond the Classroom Bus, Garrett Mentors, I Can Swim, and many others. Many of these organizations receive funding during our annual Kickoff Event.

🎓 The Andrew S. Woods Memorial Scholarship Fund
Founded in 2013 following the sudden passing of Andy Woods, this scholarship fund was created in cooperation with Landon’s Library and Samantha Funding the Arts.

Over the past 13 years, scholarships have been awarded to graduating seniors at Southern and Northern High Schools, totaling $222,000 as of 2025.
The fund has also supported:

• Mission trips
• FCA-related programs
• Programs assisting Garrett County’s handicapped population
• Other worthwhile youth initiatives

The Woods family shares:
"The scores of volunteers, hundreds of golfers, and countless donors have turned our sadness into joy for Garrett County’s youth."
